Where It All Starts
A Camp for the People Behind Africa's Public Websites
Across the continent, governments are moving their information and services online. The people who make this happen, digital leaders in ministries and the developers who build for them, often work in isolation: separated by role, by institution and by border. TYPO3 Camp Africa brings them into one room for three days. Not to listen to sales pitches, but to learn from each other, share what works, and leave with skills, contacts and ideas they can use at home.
Vision
A connected African community of TYPO3 developers and government digital leaders, building secure, inclusive and citizen-centred digital services on open standards such as Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) and GovStack.
Mission
We equip government teams across Africa with TYPO3 skills, share what works in public-sector digitalisation, and connect people across borders, so the collaboration continues long after the camp ends.
More Than a Conference
Community
Digital leaders from across the continent, meeting the people who build for them.
Expertise
Hands-on TYPO3 training and strategic guidance for the teams behind public sites.
Partnership
Developers and policy makers at one table, building what ministries actually need.
Sharing
Open peer learning: what worked, what failed, and what you can reuse at home.
Why TYPO3 for Government?
Open source, built for the long term, and yours to own.
TYPO3 is an open-source content management system, developed by an international community for more than 25 years. For public institutions, that means:
Digital Sovereignty
No licence fees, no vendor lock-in. You own your platform and your data.
Built for the Long Term
Long-term support versions and a dedicated security team.
Made for Public Services
Multilingual sites, accessibility and editorial workflows out of the box
Interoperable
Open standards that fit into a wider Digital Public Infrastructure.
From the Community, for the Community
The TYPO3 Community Expansion Committee
TYPO3 Camp Africa is organised by the TYPO3 Community Expansion Committee, an international team of the TYPO3 Association. Its mission is to foster the adoption of TYPO3 around the world by supporting web developers and public institutions in growing markets. The committee works with governments and technical communities across Africa and beyond: helping ministries standardise their websites, building local developer communities, and sharing knowledge between countries. Its members also helped complete the GovStack CMS Building Block specification and represent TYPO3 at international events such as the UN Open Source Week. For the committee, spreading free and open-source software is also a contribution to the UN Sustainable Development Goals. TYPO3 Camp Africa is the next step: bringing the people it works with together in one place.
